Update on Big Sur (macOS 11) and TechSmith Capture:

Today an updated version of TechSmith Capture (Mac) has been released and is available in our Knowmia site. Over the next day or two, existing users will automatically have the update applied.

With this release, Capture now supports macOS 11 (Big Sur). For help with installing the System Audio plugin, please see the following support article: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/360054650072

Special note about macOS 10.12 (Sierra): The version of Capture released today cannot be installed on OS 10.12 (Sierra). Sierra was released in 2016 and last received security updates in late 2019. We have now officially retired support for this operating system.

Don't Upgrade to macOS Big Sur + Apple Silicon
Posted by Andrew McAllister on 06 November 2020 10:20 AM

macOS Big Sur

We are recommending that students, faculty and staff do not upgrade to macOS Big Sur as some of their software may not be compatible or behave as expected. Apple released macOS Big Sur (macOS 10.16) on Thursday 12 November.

Known Issues

  • Techsmith Capture will NOT be supported under Big Sur at launch.

Apple Silicon

If you're considering purchasing a new Apple Laptop, you should be aware that new Apple Laptops using Apple Silicon are first-generation technology and will not run Bootcamp (Windows on Apple hardware)thus will not run Autocad, Revit, Solidworks, Rhino or other Windows 10 specific software at all, as they will not run Windows 10 natively. Watch the video below to learn more.

Should I Buy an Apple M1 Silicon Mac Today?

We do not currently recommend or support Apple M1 Silicon Macs. Here's why: read our Knowledgebase article on purchasing decisions regarding Apple M1 Silicon based Macs.
