Activating, Extending and Managing Autodesk license

To Activate or Extend your Autodesk license:

To use the version of Autodesk that we have included in our image, you must first borrow a license from our server.  The easy steps below explain how to borrow this license via AutoCAD (this will resolve the issue for ALL Autodesk programs, including 3Ds Max).  You will need to do this once every six months at most.

*Please note that Autodesk gets installed onto a Windows OS.  To boot to the Windows software installed on a Mac (Bootcamp), start up the computer while holding down the 'option / alt' key, and then select "Bootcamp" from the list.*

  1. Make sure you are connected to the "ocadu" wifi network BEFORE you launch Autocad (if this is your first time connecting, you can find the instructions in our wireless FAQ).
  2. Open AutoCAD
  3. At the bottom Left of the screen, (in the Autocad Command Line) type "BORROWLICENSE" (as soon as you start typing, the program should auto-fill the word for you)
  4. Hit ENTER and A calendar window will pop up. Click on the right-direction arrow in the window to move forward to the latest month available (ie. Six months from now)
  5. Click on the latest date available within that month (that day will be 180 days from now). You might want to pick a Wednesday or Thursday to make sure you can be on campus to do this again in 6 months.
  6. Once clicked, you should see the date appear underneath the calendar, telling you that you have borrowed the license until that date, Midnight. (IF IT DOES NOT, CLICK ON THE DATE AGAIN)

Again, please note you HAVE to be on campus and logged into the wireless network for this work.

You can return the license and re-borrow again at any time by typing 'RETURNLICENSE' and following the steps above to borrow again.

Re: licensing bug in Autodesk software:

We have observed a bug in some applications from Autodesk. Despite borrowing/extending a license, certain apps when launched will pop up a window searching for access to the FlexNet Server. At this point, you will need to click the "Cancel" button - after which, the window will reappear - and repeat this action until the window disappears completely and the app launches. You may have to click "Cancel" a large number of times for this to work.
