TechSmith Knowmia: Capture Picture-in-Picture Recording
Updated: 29 September 2020 12:40 PM
TechSmith Capture (Mac and Windows) has been updated and now includes picture-in-picture webcam recording!
After selecting a capture area but before starting the recording, your users will now be able to select either Picture-in-Picture (PiP) or Fullscreen mode from the webcam options menu. The menu and PiP webcam preview are shown here:
Picture-in-Picture is the default webcam mode in the new version of Capture, and the camera stream will be displayed in the lower right corner of the recording area. As with the traditional fullscreen option, the PiP can be toggled on and off as needed while recording.
Can I switch between Picture-in-Picture mode and Fullscreen mode after I’ve started recording?
Currently, no. The mode selection is done before recording starts. Once the recording has started, the webcam button on the control bar will simply toggle between showing and hiding the webcam.
Can I resize the webcam, or move it to somewhere else on screen?
There are no options for moving or resizing the webcam. These features might be available in a future release.
How do I get the new version of Capture?
There is no action needed. The recorder will silently update itself. However, if you’d like to start using the new option right away, you can uninstall your current version of Capture and then manually download the new version by visiting Knowmia and clicking Launch Capture.
