Migrate Curricular Courses from Canvas CV to Canvas Cloud

We have created a tool to help faculty migrate course content from Canvas to Canvas Cloud. The migrate tool works for curricular courses. This tool will not appear for Continuing Studies or sandbox courses, for these kinds of courses see the next section Exporting/Importing Canvas Courses.

  1. Login to Canvas Cloud and navigate to the course.
  2. Click Migrate in Course Navigation.
  3. Find the course to import and click Import.

Exporting/Importing Canvas Courses

Courses without access to the Migrate tool (Continuing Studies, sandboxes, etc) can use the built-in Canvas tools for Exporting and Importing.

Export Course Content

  1. Login to Canavs CV and navigate to the course you need to export.
  2. In the course Settings you will find the Export Course Content button. Once you have created and downloaded an export, you will have a Common Cartridge file with the file extension .imscc. The Common Cartridge file can be imported into Canvas Cloud.

For a complete walkthrough of exporting course content, please see Instructure's article: How do I export a Canvas course?

Import Existing Content

  1. Login to Canavs Cloud and navigate to the course you need to import.
  2. In the course Settings click Import Existing Content. Select Common Cartridge 1.x Package for the Content Type and then select a previously exported .imscc file as the Source
