TechSmith Relay - Rescuing Temporary Recordings After a Crash or Failed Upload

While recording, TechSmith Relay creates temporary files to upload when the recording is complete. If TechSmith Relay crashes or has network connectivity issues, the temporary files can be found, uploaded and re-assigned to the original owner.
Finding the Files
The file names will not make sense. Rely on the file size and date to decide which files to rescue. Faculty will let you know the date they recorded and you will be looking for files that are hundreds of megabytes in size (typically). Note: as a precaution, copy the files out of their locations first, Relay cleans out these directories automatically so make sure you have a copy.
The Classic Recorder creates temporary files in the following locations:
Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\TechSmith\TechSmith Recorder\Recordings
The New Recorder creates temporary files as well but the they are easier to find in.macOS method using the command line (Terminal). The macOS command will return the path to the recording. In the Finder, choose Go -> Go to Folder and paste the path from that was returned by that command. If nothing is returned by that command, there is no file to rescue.
Uploading the Files
After the files have been found. Make copies first just in case. Upload them to your TechSmith Relay account. The easiest way to do this is to login to ocadu.techsmithrelay.com and click the Create drop down menu (1). Select Upload Media and a new panel will open (2). Drag the file to the panel.
Transferring the Files to the Original User
After the uploaded media has been processed it will be in your library. Transfer the media to the original user by clicking the Gear icon beside the title of the video. Choose Change Owner. You will be prompted for the new owner's OCADU email address. Enter it into the field and the media will leave your library and be added to their library. Note: Any user can do this. If a faculty member ends up with someone else's content (because someone forgot to logout) they can do the exact same procedure to send the content to the original creator.
Escalation to TechSmith
If there are issues outside the scope of this article, open a support ticket with TechSmith. They are responsive and easy to work with. Use your OCAD credentials when you submit the ticket. Choose "TechSmith Relay (Hosted)" as the product. The rest of the form is simple, the only other field I will mention is Registration Status, choose "Registered/Purchased."
