McNeel Rhino 3D is a freeform 3D modeller for Windows and Mac.
Rhino can create, edit, analyze, document, render, animate, and translate NURBS* curves, surfaces, and solids, point clouds, and polygon meshes. There are no limits on complexity, degree, or size beyond those of your hardware.
IT Services supports Rhino 3D in the Laptop Program and on-campus for Industrial Design and Material Art & Design. It has a great workflow for 3D printing and is supported by our Rapid Prototyping Centre.
Rhino 6 Serials: Cross-Platform
With the release of Rhino 6 for Mac, Rhino 3D licenses are now cross-platform, meaning that you can install Rhino for Mac using your Rhino 6 Serial number.
How does the licensing work for Rhino?
1. You can create a Rhino Account (login) and place you Rhino 6 Educational license in your Rhino Account in CloudZoo: Personal. To use Rhino 6, you will need to login to your Rhino Account. This the best option if you want to switch back and forth between devices and/or platforms (Windows, Mac).
2. You may install your Rhino 6 Educational single user license on exactly ONE standalone device - either Mac or Windows. Before changing devices, the Rhino 6 license must be intentionally uninstalled from the previous device. "Wiping" the computer is insufficient; it will not release the Rhino 6 license from the previous device.
Why Does OCAD U only recommend Rhino 3D for Windows?
We're still currently evaluating Rhino for Mac: is not exactly the same as Rhino for Windows yet. Primary Feature Differences in Rhino for Mac and Rhino for Window and does not include the same commands.
