Canvas: How do I add people to my course?

Instructors can add other people to their Canvas course, giving that person access to the course content. There are a few things to keep in mind: 

  • The person you are trying to add must have an OCAD U username. 
  • When you add people to your course, you choose the role they have within the course (see What are the differences between the course roles?)
  • You cannot add people with the "Student" role. 
  • You cannot add people to concluded courses.

You can add people to your course from the "People" page. Click the "+ People" button, then copy and paste the person's username into the text field (you can also use the person's email address, but the username will be more reliable. The username is what the person uses when they log into Canvas; ex: "cbennell"). Select the role you would like them to have and click "Next". The person will be sent an invitation to the course. 

If Canvas says that I cannot find a the person you're trying to add, please get in touch with the IT Help Desk.
